Emmys 2018: Donald Glover and “Atlanta” Dominate Nominations



The 2018 Emmy award nominations are in. Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) received nominations for acting, writing, and directing for his acclaimed FX series “Atlanta.” Among his four nominations is Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He will also compete against himself in Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, for the episodes “FUBU” and “Teddy Perkins.”

“Atlanta” was nominated for 16 awards overall, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Two of its episodes—“Alligator Man” (written by Glover) and “Barbershop” (written by Stefani Robinson)—received nominations in the category for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. The episode “Alligator Man” is also nominated for Outstanding Music Supervision. Brian Tyree Henry, who plays Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles, is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Zazie Beetz, who portrays Van, is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Additionally, Glover is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” where he was both the host and musical guest.

Last year, Glover won two Emmys: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. The latter award was given for his work on the “Atlanta” episode “B.A.N.,” and made Glover the first black director in history to take home the honor. The show was recently renewed for its third season.
